After this OWEN the family took the name BOWEN from the patronymic of his son JOHN ap OWEN. Nothing else was found on him.

769. NN dau PHILIP HORTON/HURTON of Tregwint/Trewent (Wales)

She was identified as the wife of OWEN of Lochmeyler in the Golden Grove book (Gwaethvoed 42L 1649, Film no.104350). Little was found on this early family of HORTON/HURTON, which also married into the Picton, Cantelupe, Wirriot, and Cradoc families (GG, Adv Pembs B389 47, Film no.104352). Her father was named as Lord of Tregwint/Trewent, and their arms were "Argent 3 bends eng gules a canton or", i.e. A silver shield 3 red bends? eng? and a gold right region??

770. WILLIAM/ALEXANDER ROBLIN of Roblinston (Wales)

WILLIAM was identified by Dwnn (I,116) and the GG book (Gwaethvoed 42L 1649, Film no.104350). Members of this family were early knights and landowners. In 1326 an Alexander Roblin was known to own part of the Roblinston estate, and perhaps was the same man. The estate was later owned by the BOWEN family until 1768.

771. JOAN BARRETT

She was identified as a ROBLIN wife in the GG book on our BOWENS (Gwaethvoed 42-43L 1649-50, Film no.104350), but her father's first name was not given. The BARRETTS were said to be a Norman family that came to Wales with "Gilbert Strongbow," but this would have to be proved (GG, Adv Demetianae B337-38 9-10, Film no. 104352). At least for some time they held the Lordship of Pendine and married into numerous Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire families. They remained an important family in South Wales until at least the 18th century.
